![]() ![]() Well I just found out that the Win 7 product key that came with my Dell laptop will NOT work with retail versions of Windows 7, which is what's on the MS website. So I downloaded a Windows 7 Pro ISO from MS and had planned to put it on a USB stick to reinstall to the new SSD I just bought. Trying to do anything on the laptop at this time will result in Windows completely freezing up. ![]() This is the HDD getting "stuck" on a bad spot on the disk trying to access a file in said location. Click on Start, type cmd in the search area, then press. Out of nowhere the HDD light will suddenly come on and stay permanently lit. On the Windows 7 computer, plug the thumbdrive into a USB port, then start the command prompt with administrator rights. I've already had to run CHKDSK on multiple occasions to fix bad clusters. I have a Dell E6540 that has Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit installed. Decided I'd better put them on there just in case (with a few tricks of having to modify the install packages that comes in the Windows ISO). For example, you might press Esc to save your changes and then press Y to confirm that you want to save and exit. Wasn't sure if I actually needed the USB 3.0 drivers or how to get them on there. Press the 'Save and Exit' key as specified by the key legend, then press the 'Confirm' key when prompted. Got it onto my USB stick using Rufus and tested at boot to make sure it loads up. EDIT () - Managed to get a Dell version of Windows 7 ISO from . Download McAfee Internet Security 19. ![]()
